Paul Kusserow

Kusserow joined Humana in February 2009 as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer responsible for leading the company’s strategic planning function and its merger and acquisition and venture-capital activities.

A Vermont native, Kusserow was most recently Managing Director of Private Equity at the Chicago-based investment firm B.C. Ziegler and Company, Inc. He was also Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of the Ziegler HealthVest Fund where he focused on early stage investments in healthcare services and healthcare IT.

From 2004 to 2007, he was Managing Director of San Ysidro Capital Partners LLC, a healthcare services consulting and investment advisory firm. From 1997 to 2004, Kusserow served as Tenet Healthcare Corporation’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy, where he managed Tenet’s venture investments and founded Tenet Ventures. Before that, he was head of planning and marketing at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, where he was responsible for strategic planning and new business development and marketing. Kusserow started his career as a consultant with McKinsey and Company, Inc., where he specialized in marketing and organizational redesign.

Kusserow is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wesleyan University. He earned an Master’s degree with honors from Oxford University where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

Charles Beckman

During his 15 years with Humana, Beckman has been responsible for the oversight of Humana’s strategic investments as well as a participant in the strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) function. Specifically, he has been responsible for the development and management of provider networks, as well as strategic planning for various Humana specialty products. Most recently, Beckman played an integral role in the overhaul of Humana’s long-term planning and M&A function. Over the past five years, Beckman has been responsible for ten transactions for Humana valued at nearly $2 Billion. Beckman has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Texas and an MBA from the University of Louisville.

Greg Price

Price has more than 20 years’ experience with Humana and has been in the healthcare industry for 26 years. After a brief period in public accounting, he joined Humana where he has served in positions in hospital accounting, corporate development, and corporate accounting & finance. In the most recent past, Price’s focus has been on merger and acquisition activities; he has been responsible for transactions for Humana valued at nearly $500 million. Price earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from the University of Kentucky.

Scott Ropp

Ropp has been with Humana since 2001. The broad span of assignments he has worked on over that time include executive compensation package design, management of the corporate strategic roadmaps, business case development for large capital expenditures, and planning and execution of M&A and venture capital deals. A few highlights of Ropp’s accomplishments include justification of Humana’s move into mail-order drug distribution, and significant contributions to recent acquisitions valued at $260 million. Ropp earned a Bachelor’s in Marketing from San Diego State University and an MBA from Vanderbilt University.

Amy Boone

Boone brings a unique blend corporate development, strategic planning, and direct clinical experience in the healthcare industry. Her professional endeavors have focused on identifying, evaluating, and developing front-end business opportunities in both start-up and corporate settings. She joined Humana’s Strategy and Corporate Development team in 2005 and has been involved in numerous transactions valued at $460 million. Boone has a Bachelor’s of Science in Occupational Therapy from Eastern Kentucky University and an MBA in Entrepreneurship from University of Louisville.

John Hardy

Hardy began his career as a utility player for the CFO of the Federal Technology Service in Washington DC, following graduation from Virginia Tech with a degree in Finance. He then went to graduate school at the Darden program at the University of Virginia, and joined Humana’s Corporate Development group shortly thereafter. In his two years with Humana, Hardy has worked in the three functional areas that Corporate Development represents: M&A, Venture Capital, and Corporate Strategic Planning.

Nick Muscato

Muscato joined Humana in 2007 after graduating with honors from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business with degrees in Finance and Operations Management. During his time at Humana, he has worked in Financial Operations and Strategy & Corporate Development. More recently Muscato has focused his efforts on Mergers & Acquisition and Venture Capital activity, leading a number of due diligence processes and investigating venture opportunities.

Lou Black

Black joined Humana Inc. in 2009. Prior to joining Humana, she has worked in the areas of accounting, finance, and venture capital. Black has an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from the University of Louisville.
